As fixies—tiny, human-like beings with vibrant colors, distinct traits, and personalities—they live secretly within machines and appliances, dedicated to fixing issues and ensuring everything operates smoothly. Their mission is to understand and repair what has broken, but they must keep their existence a secret. Simka and Nolik cannot risk being seen by Tom's father or anyone else, as they fear being captured and treated like pets or forced to work on appliances, which would jeopardize their hidden lives. They worry that humans wouldn't grasp their true purpose and might exploit them instead. Maintaining their secrecy is vital for their survival and freedom. To stay undetected, they often take on their usual screw-like forms, especially when they lack energy, are hibernating, or need to deceive Thomas's parents. They remain in this form until Tom's dad is gone, allowing Thomas to confront and navigate his father's inappropriate behavior.
